The results are in for President elect 2004

Well, the Presidnt that won the November 2004 election was George W. Bush, again. linkI don't know about you, but I was pro Kerry and I am rather disappointed that he didn't win for office. I just don't see how this keeps happening. There were double the voters that came out over last election, and still the same results. Only by a slither does Bush keep on winning. I felt distraught when I woke up the morning after and saw on Good Morning America that Ohio was being contested, as well as two other states. I just knew that Kerry was going to win! Then during my lunch break, I witnessed John Kerry concede. What a pity. All throughout the day I heard different comments from the folks on campus at UMKC.. "if Kerry doen't win, I'm going to puke".. "Hey, if Bush wins, I'm going to riot.. "If there are any riots going on, let me know because I am going to join in on it if Bush wins"... I felt all these peoples pain. Its that deep to me. I just don't see President Bush as someone that holds my values on his priority list and I see that I am not the only one. On the radio, I heard the VJ's joking about how their jobs might be outsourced tomorrow or the black people should get ready to fight cause we're going to be picking cotton again... Obviously these were black vj's, and obviously they were joking, but do you see what some of the issues are? Its as if Bush is like "its all for themselves". If you aren't rich, then you know.. "sorry". Now its a lot deeper than this, and there are way more issues and concerns that people have, but this is touching on the top of things for those of minority.

Stressed students

I am really irritated with being stressed while attending classes at UMKC. Now, I know that when we attend college, it comes with a package, and stress is a part of this. Sometimes I wonder why can’t it be easier? Am I the only one who feels like this? I mean, on top of every instructor giving shit loads of material to read and burn into our brains so that we may have it down for the exam that’s scheduled a week away, we work, some of us are parents and there’s just so much that goes into one single day! I wonder what a survey of students stress would look like.. Here’s a link to a really good article I found on this..http://www.campusblues.com/stress.asp">
I suppose this isn’t such a bad thing though. I mean we are stressed for a good reason, we’re trying to be the best students that we can be in order to be the best at what we do when we graduate on to our careers.

The 2nd Presidential Debate

I didn't get the opportunity to view the first debate, but from reviewing the second one, I would say that John Kerry's responses are truly elaborate and quick. To me it seems as if the Presidents answers just weren't as effective. And did anyone notice, that when the audience were asking questions, the Senator always introduced his reply with the addressing of the audience members name? I didn't hear it as much from the President. Also, how aggressive was the president, when the mediator, was trying to switch to another question, the President wanted to respond to Kerry so bad he kind of cut him off and jumped in and started talking anyway. I felt that that was kinda rude to him. I'm thinking that he may have gotten away with that because, he's President Bush.
I feel that this was a good debate, I myself am not a decided voter right now, but I am really leaning towards Kerry. I feel he may be an affective leader. The President just seemed so blunt, so... straight forward, and don't get me wrong, but its just that he seemed so sarcastic in what he said. And did anyone notice the jargon that was used a couple of times? Forgive me, but I cannot remember who said it, but I believe I heard something like, "man" and "bring it on/brought it on... Something like that!! Sorry I can't remember what it was exactly, but it sounded like something that would appeal to me, and I certainlyl looked up when I heard it. I just thought that was interesting, maybe they were trying to appeal to a younger audience.
Oh my, and just as I was about to post this, I heard the President say "Haters" referring to the terrorist.. lol. How funny. My friend that is sitting here with me heard that as well (he's not a student @ UMKC) and started laughing when he heard it too. The President Is trying to appeal to us younger people. (That's a word that I hear Lots of young people refer to when they are speaking about someone who they don't like because they feel they are disrespectful to them)

University Parking

I'm sure that the majority of us that attend classes on any given day are annoyed with the parking that is available to us at the University (of Missouri Kansas City in my case). What I don't understand is why is it taking so long for this to be improved?! I've not visited any other Universitites, so therefore I cannot acutally say if it is the absolute worst, but I know that its a hassle everyday I have to come to class. I'm late when I try so hard not to be some days!! Theres so much traffic, there aren't enough spaces, and I know for a fact that I am not the only one who feels this way over this issue. For instance, if we view the UNews website, there are letters that people have written to the editor about it. Parking complaints
As much money that has been spent on the new Parking garages you would think that this issue would have softened up after a while, you know made the situation a little more conveniant for us students. But this also isn't the problem, how about the price for the meters have went up as well!! What kind of stuff is this? Don't we pay enough in tuition each year? Why isn't the cost put into that? Its just a little annoying to me that it seems like the students are having to pay all this extra when really I don't see any need for it. On top of having hardly anywhere to park on any given day, we have to pay More than what we did the year before. Not only that, but when we purchase parking passes, those spaces are all taken up as well, therefore we have to park at a meter and still pay the meter!?? Who agrees with this? I would assume the person(s) that made up those rules are probably not the ones that have to come here everyday and struggle to find parking on some days.

Who's a Celebrity?

The term I am going to use is Celebrity. This definition is needed because there is more than just one category of celebrity. It also doesn’t have to always be glitz and glamour or a person who is highly publicized for good reasons. The audience on this will be high school/college students. I feel that it will relate to them because maybe there are some that aren't into movies and videos and may see a celebrity in someone else besides that, someone in everday real life, people that are doing something different besides trying to persuade them to get the latest styles of clothes, hair, and shoes..etc.
Anyone can be called a celebrity, it just depends on who is thinking what about any certain person. For instance, if there is a person who does something good for the world, who is famous perhaps some actor or actress, model or talk show host, someone who is highly publicized or glamorized, they more than likely could be considered a celebrity in comparison to any ordinary citizen. On the other hand a celebrity could be considered a person(s) parent, grandparent, maybe someone who hasn’t necessarily done a lot with the public, but because they are so close to the person that is identifying them, and the identifier already knows a good deal about them, maybe this person has done great things for them or someone else, then they may very well be viewed as a celebrity.
Now, on the other hand, to be considered a celebrity, one may not have had to do something that was “good” or featured somewhere in a positive way. People do crazy things all the time whom get highly publicized, it seems like the worse the thing is that someone has a connection with doing then, the more he/she is talked about. In that case, I believe this is a certain extent of being a celebrity.
To be a celebrity I just feel that you are someone that is mentioned a lot, talked about to a good extreme, weather it be negative or positive. You’ve caught peoples attention by what you have gotten involved with and weather we like it or not, that word has a catch to it and we like to use it when we reference to someone that we feel has impacted us or when the person is known to people all over weather in vast or small amounts.
People who may fall into this category of not necessarily being a film star or something of that sort, but who is mentioned alot could be the Presidential candidate John Kerry. There is much debate over this man, there are people that feel is absolutely great, then there are those who believe that he may be full of himself for the contradictions hes made pertaining to his war services. This is a man who is talked about alot, there is a lot at steak and more than likely there are those who are trying to sort things out to see exactly where he is coming from so they know if he is who they should trust to be in office or not. There is also George Bush, whom alot feel that he is wrong for the whole situation with the war and everything. There are supporters of his own that have very strong opinions of him as well, both good and bad. I am far from very political, but I believe these are good examples of celebrities to some extent.
